The Psalms Foundation
The Psalms Foundation is a non-profit organization founded
in 1998 by Parris Lane and friends to provide scholarships and activities to
educate underprivileged and/or poverty stricken children through the arts.
She introduces these children to the world of the performing arts by
personally supporting their attendance at her specialty shows coordinated and
produce by her company Raven Productions Ltd. and other
multi-racial/cultural performances in the arts. The Foundation also
organizes benefit concerts , lessons, camps and schools for the arts (voice,
acting, musical instruments and dance). The scholarship recipients are chosen
by applying with the national standards for poverty level income. The
Foundation will consist of a Junior choir, dance troupe, and eventually a
professional recording audio/video of the participants .
Parris is no stranger to
giving herself to help those in need. Dubbed “Annapolis’ Best Kept Secret”...
She has staged full-scale musicals and variety shows for charities. To name a
few YWCA Domestic Violence Program , The Chrysalis House a non-profit
organization that provide housing for mothers who are receiving treatment for
chemical dependencies and their children, allowing them to be together, The
Banneker Douglass Museum “Image” series to educate the audience with
positive African American accomplishments through the arts, Kenmore Middle
School to give T-Shirt and other gifts to children that achieved high scores
on their Math Functional Test, improved attendance and/or grade point
average, The Boys and Girls Club and more.
Ms. Lane has received numerous awards including the
Governor’s Proclamation for her one woman show based on her life experience.
Determined to spread the joy, she selected a group of children and created a
multi-racial/cultural choir and gave them the opportunity to be featured on
her CD. Her goal for The Psalms Foundation is to integrate
children of different racial and economical backgrounds and educate them
through the arts. For her there is no better way to begin this process
except through the children because their hearts and minds are open and
ready to love unconditionally. It was the only organization as such in the Annapolis area.
